husband, Rabbi Yehuda Mandelcorn, z”l, fueled by a love for
Eretz Hakedosha, made aliyah as newlyweds, settling in
Geula to be close to his kollel. The Mandelcorns had some
family in Eretz Yisrael. A grandmother and aunt were living
in Yerushalayim, and Rabbi Mandelcorn’s parents and sister
moved to Eretz Yisrael shortly after, as well. Even so, Mrs.
Blumenfeld recalls feeling very alone, especially because she
was one of the only Americans in Geula. Ultimately, however,
Mrs. Blumenfeld was very happy with her life in the Holy
